Interceptive Treatment

You’re likely wondering when you should bring your child to be seen by the orthodontist… the American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children have their first orthodontic exam at age seven. Even though there are still baby teeth present at this age, the permanent teeth and jaws are developed enough that our highly trained and experienced orthodontists can identify any emerging issues. Often, the first visit will reveal that no treatment is needed, giving you peace of mind that your child’s jaws and teeth are developing normally. Phase I treatment is sometimes recommended because at this stage, orthodontists can see issues that may need early treatment to address a developing problem later in life.

The Rationale for Phase I Care

The Rationale for Phase I Care

Phase 1 treatment is used to reduce the risk of trauma to teeth, guide the growth of the jaws to prevent long-lasting asymmetries and crossbites, eliminate harmful habits such as thumb sucking, guide the eruption of permanent teeth into a more favorable position, and boost a child's self-esteem. It prevents more complex problems from developing down the line, and aims to make future (Phase 2) treatment shorter and less complex. In addition to providing the highest quality care for kids, we are focused on creating a fun, relaxed atmosphere where they feel right at home! Please contact us to schedule your child’s initial exam with our team to discuss their unique orthodontic needs.
