Eric Howard, DMD, PhD
Most of my patients think this profession is all about great looking smiles. Sure, it includes that, but what I'm really interested in is the fact that an attractive smile is also a healthy smile. My goal is to provide a smile that has optimal health with the fortunate benefit that it looks great.
Education and Continuing Education
In order to become an orthodontist, I attained the following education and honors:
- Bachelor of Science, Rochester Institute of Technology.
- DMD, University of Pennsylvania.
- Omicron Kappa Upsilon - Dental honor society
- Certificate in Orthodontics and PhD in Developmental Biology, University of Rochester.
Although my formal education is complete, I know that my profession is continually changing and adapting to new technologies and methods. I attend continuing education courses and seminars every year in order to understand the latest developments in the science and art of orthodontics. I also teach in the graduate orthodontic program at Penn Dental and serve on the faculty of Orametrix, teaching digital and lingual orthodontics.
As a part of our continuing education, my team and I are attending the 2011 SureSmile Conference in Orlando, FL. SureSmile is an advanced method used to create beautiful smiles more efficiently and comfortably than ever before. Everything I learn is for the benefit of my patients, and I want them to have a positive orthodontic experience and a smile that lasts forever!
In the Practice
Our practice has been providing care in Lancaster County since 1921. Our patients show tremendous loyalty, and many are in their second and third generation at our office. We also tend to attract patients that appreciate technology and the fact that we leverage the newest orthodontic methods to improve their experience and their outcome.
I love what I do because orthodontics is both an art and a science. I have the ability to make lasting changes in a patient’s smile with the goal of ideal function and improved oral health for a lifetime. A great looking smile is also a healthy smile. Orthodontic care is not just about great smile today; it's about a healthy smile for years to come!
On average, our staff members have greater than twelve years experience in our office. That means that when you receive care at LOA, you have confidence that an experienced and compassionate team will care for you.
I am originally from Rochester, NY and have lived in Lancaster since 2002. My wife, Darlene, and I love it here! Darlene and I have two wonderful children, Alex and Lily. When I’m not in the office, you can usually find me attending Alex and Lily's swim meets and soccer games. I also coach Lily's soccer team. I enjoy running, cycling and taking our Beagle, Daisy, for walks.
